5 Ways to Have Better Sex in the New Year

5 Ways to Have Better Sex in the New Year

how to have better sex, sex tips, communicating in the bedroom, sex advice, what makes sex intimate

Is your sex life getting stale? Have you always wished you could be more adventurous in the bedroom but don’t know where to begin? Here are 5 fairly simple things you can do that will make a huge difference for you in the sack:

1. Have sex with some light in the room.
If you’re used to only having sex in the dark, start with some candles, say the experts at YourTango. From there, have daylight sex with your eyes open. Men are visual creatures (we know this) and they love to look at a woman’s body while they’re having sex. Women, learn to delight in your visual sense, too! Focus on his face or his chest if that’s what makes you feel comfortable to begin with — eventually you might even like the way you look naked!

2. Ask for what you want and be clear about what you don’t like.
Women, men love to hear you talk to them in bed. You have no reason to feel shy or awkward about giving them feedback. You’ll likely feel more comfortable with being critical when necessary if you learn to also give him compliments when he hits the right spot. Men seem to have less of a problem being direct about what works, but if you are being mum, gentlemen, don’t be.

3.Learn how to take a compliment.
The experts at YourTango say, “Your guy enjoys telling you he’s attracted to you. As a bonus, it can make you feel pretty, and help keep the pilot light of your sex life shimmering. But when you respond with “Ugh, look at my belly,” or “With this hair? No way,” it takes all the fun away.” That goes for men, too!

4. Don’t just focus on intercourse.
There are lots of ways to have sex! Remember the joys of outercourse? Shake up your routine!

5. Be responsible about birth control and protection from STDs.
You can relax and enjoy when you know you’re protected from disease and if you’re trying to get pregnant or not. If you’re not trying to get pregnant, experts say, “You don’t walk into a hair salon and say “I’ll leave it to Jose — if he perms and dyes my hair red that’s okay, and if he doesn’t, that’s okay too.” So don’t use that approach to pregnancy. If you don’t want it tonight, use a scientifically reliable form of contraception.”

The Perfect Age to Get Married

The Perfect Age to Get Married

Twenty-five years old is the apparently the “right age” for couples to start getting married, says a recent study published in The Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. Or at least that’s the number the researchers received when they asked 536 college students their opinion on the perfect age to tie the knot.
Of course, this huge decision shouldn’t be based on some survey results. If you want to know if she’s jonesing for an engagement ring, she’s probably already telling you. “Women often drop subtle hints when they’re thinking about getting engaged,” Tracey Steinberg, an NYC-based dating and flirting expert, tells MensHealth.com. “And usually their sole purpose is to figure out where you stand on the matter.”

If you’re curious whether or not she’s got her eye on a rock, here are four common scenarios to look out for.

Clue 1: All of her friends are getting married, and it’s the best thing ever!
Wedding season can bring out the inner romantic in all of us, but if your girl can’t stop gushing about her best friend’s big day, something may be up. “Being excited for a friend is normal,” says Steinberg. But if she’s repetitively bringing up how much fun planning the event must be, or how great being engaged must feel, that’s a dead giveaway it’s on her mind, says Steinberg.

Clue 2: She’s suddenly the master of hypothetical scenarios.
If watching a romantic comedy suddenly brings out her inner detective, take note. Women will often use cues from TV shows or movies to pose hypothetical questions about your 5-year plan, your stance on kids, or your views on marriage, says Steinberg. Now this obviously isn’t a bad thing—it’s clearly an easy way to broach a serious topic. “But asking you about your desires for the future is a classic indicator that she sees you in hers,” Steinberg explains.

Clue 3: Every engagement commercial warrants a response from her.
We get it: The folks over at Kay Jewelers are emotion-evoking geniuses when it comes to making commercials. But if she’s going out of her way to express how adorable every engagement commercial is, or comments on how creative each proposal was—chances are she wants you to get the hint, says Steinberg.

Clue 4: She’s buttering you up.
Some women choose to get their point across without saying exactly what they mean. Case in point: If she’s consistently telling you how critical you are to her happiness, and that she can’t imagine her life without you in it, that’s pretty much your green light for proposal, says Steinberg. “It’s the easiest way to let you know, that if you did propose, she’d clearly say yes,” explains Steinberg.

Healthy Breakfast Recipe: Fitter French Toast

Healthy Breakfast Recipe: Fitter French Toast

Looking for a quick an easy brunch recipe? In honor of this lazy holiday weekend, here's a low-fat meal you're guaranteed to love.

healthy french toast with fruit and honey

French toast is always tempting on a weekend morning, but it’s almost guaranteed to make you feel like you’ve just eaten a loaf of bread for breakfast. In search of a better recipe, we went to chef Tim Wood, who is a pro at putting healthful spins on comfort foods at the Lodge Restaurant at Carmel Valley Ranch, a summer camp–inspired resort in the foothills of the Santa Lucia mountains in Carmel, CA.
To make this Fit French Toast Recipe, make sure to look for high-quality pumpernickel bread, made with actual whole-grain rye flour (a darker appearance is a good clue), which is loaded with fiber and even some protein. And instead of maple syrup, the chef serves his toast with honey—harvested from 60,000 honeybees right on the ranch.

Ingredients:
  • 4 slices of pumpernickel bread
  • 4 egg whites (or enough to coat the bread)
  • ½ cup of buttermilk
  • Low-fat cottage cheese, for spreading
  • Honey, for topping
  • Blueberries and strawberries, for topping
Instructions:
  1. Whisk together egg whites and buttermilk.
  2. Dip slice of bread in egg mixture and grill until egg whites get that golden-brown look. Repeat with remaining slices.
  3. Transfer bread to plate and smear cottage cheese on top (take it out of the fridge 15 minutes or so before serving, so it doesn’t make the bread cold).
  4. Top with honey, blueberries and strawberries.
Serves: 2
Fit Factor: A few careful tweaks overhaul this meal’s nutrition—whole-grain bread provides fiber, cottage cheese adds a little protein, and egg whites (instead of eggs) lower the fat and cholesterol counts.
