Healthy Ways to Look And Feel Younger

When it comes to staying young, it's often what's on the inside that counts. Leading a healthy lifestyle doesn't just extend your years — it can keep you looking youthful, too. These easy tips are anti-aging from the inside out.

Eat Your Fruits and Veggies

The antioxidants and phytonutrients in fruits and vegetables will help fight wrinkles and keep your skin hydrated and even-toned. Aim to get a wide range of colors on your plate — it’s an easy way to ensure you get a variety of vitamins and other health-boosting nutrients. A produce-heavy diet will also help you maintain a healthy weight, which is key to looking and feeling young.

And Eat Plenty of Fish, Too

Lean protein (skinless chicken, egg whites, tofu) is crucial to maintaining muscle mass as you get older. And fatty fish (salmon, tuna) has an extra benefit: it’s full of omega-3 fatty acids, which help protect your skin from the sun, keep your heart healthy, and may even reduce breast cancer risk.

Wear Sunscreen

You’ve heard it before: To ward off wrinkles, slather on the sunscreen. But did you know that a daily SPF habit can reverse some signs of sun-induced aging? The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends applying SPF 15 every day to fight aging and lower your skin cancer risk.

And a Hat or Sunglasses

A hat will help shield your face from the sun—and will also protect your eyes. UV-blocking sunglasses can also shield your peepers and help prevent age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.

Drink Tea

Anti-inflammatory polyphenols in green and white tea can keep your skin looking young and lower your cancer risk.

But Don't Add Any Sugar to It

Not only can excess sugar lead to weight gain, it ages your skin too! Refined carbohydrates like table sugar boost creation of AGEs (advanced glycation end products), which are just as aging as they sound.

Remember to Strength-Train

Yoga, with its focus on a strong core and proper alignment, is great for improving your posture, which will help you look better and stay pain-free. As you age, you naturally lose muscle mass, which lowers the burn on your metabolism. So whether you prefer body weight exercises or weight lifting, make sure to strength train to keep your body toned and at its calorie-burning peak.
