Monday's Commute after Sandy

Riders on New York City's transit system should be prepared that Monday's commute won't be normal.

80 percent of New York City's subway service has been restored since the superstorm hit.

The 4, 5, 6 and 7 trains are fully restored. The Staten Island Railway resumed service Saturday, and will be fully restored in time for the Monday morning rush.

L and G trains will be out a while longer because of flooding. Also, A service is going to be out a while longer up in northern Manhattan but we’re working as quickly and as hard as we can to get as much service back as quickly

crews had restored J train service across the Williamsburg Bridge, between Jamaica Center and Essex Street. Unforseen electrical problems slowed an earlier timetable.

5 trains will operate between Eastchester / Dyre Avenue and Flatbush Avenue as an express in Manhattan only.
* 6 trains will operate between Pelham Bay and Brooklyn Bridge as a local.
* The Flushing Line will operate full local service between Main Street-Flushing and 42nd Street-Times Square.
* The Staten Island Railway will operate limited hourly service between St. George and Tottenville.
On Long Island, the Huntington, Ronkonkoma, Babylon and Port Washington lines began Friday running hourly service between 6 and 10 a.m. That's about 31 percent of its average weekday capacity.

The resumption of service is made possible by Con Edison's continued work to restore power to darkened sections of lower Manhattan.

On the roads, one lane of the Holland Tunnel is open for commuter buses, but it remains closed to passenger vehicles, as does the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and Queens Midtown Tunnel. They are expected to be closed through the weekend.

In New Jersey, four additional New Jersey Transit rail lines resumed service Sunday morning.

  • North Jersey Coast Line will resume limited service to New York Penn Station, operating between Woodbridge and New York.
  • Raritan Valley Line service will resume limited service between Raritan and Newark Penn Station.
  • The Main/Port Jervis Line will resume limited service, with trains originating and terminating in Secaucus.
  • The Atlantic City Line will resume normal service, operating between Atlantic City and Philadelphia.
NY Waterway plans to operate normal ferry/bus service, including service from the Hoboken Rail/Ferry Terminal, starting at 6 a.m. Monday.
There will be no service from Jersey City's Port Liberte terminal, which was damaged severely by Hurricane Sandy.
Regular weekend service continues Sunday from 8 a.m. until 1:10 a.m. between Port Imperial in Weehawken, N.J., and West 39th Street in Manhattan. It includes free connecting bus service.
Ferries also will operate on a normal weekend schedule between Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken, 14th Street in Hoboken and West 39th Street.
Tickets on cancelled routes will be honored on other routes. Because of water damage to ticketing equipment, some terminals will sell tickets for cash only.

The Long Island Rail Road is reopening parts of its Babylon and Huntington lines, and Metro North is offering service on its Hudson and Harlem lines. PATH service is still suspended. Staten Island Ferry service has resumed.
Alternate Side Parking is suspended but all other parking regulations, including parking meters, are in effect.
