An estimated 2,270 children under age 3 are treated in the E.R. each year for injuries associated with pacifiers, bottles, and sippy cups, according to research from Nationwide Children's Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio. These include cuts and dental injuries. Always ask your child to sit while he drinks, ans stick to the age recs below for transitioning kids off these items, says principal investigator Sarah Keim, Ph.D.
*Pacifier- Talk to your doctor about how and when to wean around the first birthday.
*Bottle- Begin to make the transition between 12 and 24 months.
*Sippy cup-Try it whenever your child can handle an open cup, usually before age 2.
