According to HealthyAnswers.com, a group of experimental biology scientists from the University of Bradford in West Yorkshire, England, found that deficiencies in antioxidants and magnesium set off a domino effect of critical nutrients that preserve hair color. The end result: granny-like (or Lady Gaga like) hair.
There’s a whole lot of medical talk to explain this, using big words like catalase and methionine sulfoxide. What you need to know though is that it’s more up to you than previously thought. How?
Supplementation of key antioxidants and minerals can ward off many of the conditions brought on by malnutrition, says HealthyAnswers.com medical expert Mark Rosenberg, M.D.
An amino acid called L-methionine is key. It is found in protein, something many vegetarians lack when they swear off meat. Boost your protein intake and you’re already better off (think whole grains, tofu, nuts, avocado, protein shakes). Supplement your magnesium intake, too, which wears off with excessive soda and caffeine intake, poor sleep, and more bad-for-you habits.
But most importantly, remember that preventing an onset of anything, gray hair included, is easier than ridding it once it’s set. So watch what you eat and talk to your doctor if you’d rather not rock Santa hair next winter.
