Drink Smart
Drink Smart
Kids are still downing too many sugary drinks, according to a new study. Before you pour, keep this in mind.
Kids under 6 should drink 6 ounces or less of juice a day, and older kids can have 8 to 12 ounces. Choose 100% juice instead of fruit drinks so that your child gets more nutrients and vitamins.
Water is the best way for most kids to rehydrate after a game or practice, and it will help your child steer clear of the excess sugar in the drinks that could lead to obesity or tooth decay.
A recent survey for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that 32% of kids drink whole milk. To avoid unnecessary fat and calories, children over age 2 should be given skim milk.
