Storyteller and poet Daniel Carlton begins this special evening program by performing “On The Wings of Yardbird,” the story of a Black WWII veteran’s return home to Harlem and his first encounter with the music of Charlie Parker. His hopes, dreams, heartache and pain are captured in the jazzman’s solos, set to the tunes of “Ornithology” and other Charlie Parker music.
