Does Makeup Expiration Matter

Does Makeup Expiration Matter?

Yes and no. The general rule is to discard makeup a year after it's been opened, to prevent contamination, says dermatologist Audrey Kunin, M.D. of Kansas City, Missouri. The exception to this guideline is mascara, which Dr Kunin advises throwing out after three to six months. That's because you apply it so close to the sensitive eye area, and the brush bristles are a breeding ground bacteria. Toss any makeup that smells bad immediately.
