Spring is around the corner, which means you’ll need a new, crisp quaffer to tote along at picnics and barbecues. Something festive and spritzy.
We think you’ll be pleased with ZED, a blushing surprise from the winemakers of Jacob’s Creek, Australia’s largest wine brand. ZED ($15) is a moscato rosé that recalls the color of rose quartz and the aroma of maraschino cherries.
The slightly sweet beverage is not brimming with complexity but has the zip, acidity, and mild effervescence to pair with a simple cheese plate or other easy, breezy appetizer. The low, 8.5 percent alcohol is a bonus, too, since bathing suit season isn’t far off.
Feeling frisky, we topped a few vodka-based cocktails with ZED for the fruit flavors, sparkle, and color. And, yes, we served them with crushed maraschino cherries.
