You’ll need a few summer makeup basics to get started―mineral makeup foundation, pressed powder that matches your current skin, bronzer, pressed powder that’s two shades darker than your current skin, blush, an eye shadow combination complementary to your skin tones, eyeliner, mascara, and a natural-colored matte lipstick and SPF lip gloss.
Always prepare for makeup by cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen. Begin makeup application with a lightweight foundation, like mineral makeup, that matches your skin color. Use your hands when applying mineral makeup: the warmth of your fingertips helps the makeup bond to the skin
Apply a small amount of pressed powder that matches your skin to finish the base color. Tap the brush on your wrist to loosen the excess powder and prevent clumping on the face.
Use the bronzer together with a pressed powder that’s two shades darker than your skin to add summer color. Rotate the two products to create a more natural, blended look that draws out the many undertones of your skin.
Alternate between the powder and bronzer, holding the brush in the middle portion of the handle to encourage looser strokes. Apply to areas where you naturally get sun, such as the nose, chin, and forehead. Use the remaining bronzer and powder on the brush to accent bone structure and blend into the neck. Extra powder can also be used to shade areas that you’d like to appear smaller, such as the bridge of your nose or an extra long jawline.
Apply blush to cheeks for extra warmth. Try smiling to line up the brush with the top of your cheekbone. Hold the brush handle close to the end for light, sweeping strokes. For longer faces, only apply blush to the small area at the top of the cheeks to de-emphasize the length of the face. For shorter faces, apply blush first at the top of the cheekbone and proceed at a downward angle.
For eyes, use a natural base color to cover the entire lid. Apply the base color to the bottom of the eye line as well to balance the overall look of the eye. For sagging eyes, use a slightly darker shade where the eye creases. And to open the eyes overall, use a lighter shade to create an angle from the very top of the eyelid to the brow bone and from the corner of the eye to the brow bone.
To apply eyeliner naturally, use a small brush to gently gather liner from the pencil.
Use an eyelash curler to add length and shape to lashes before applying mascara.
Pick a neutral color for lips. First apply a matte base lipstick to ensure long-lasting wear. Use an SPF lip gloss to add shine and sun protection.
