Christmas Trees That Are Better Than Yours

The traditional Christmas tree—with its colorful lights, garlands, and glass ornaments—has its obvious appeals. But a number of hotels have put their own creative, and often quirky, stamp on the classic holiday icon. Here are our favorite hotel Christmas trees.

Liberty Hotel

Boston

At Boston's Liberty Hotel, Christmas is turned upside-down. Literally: six trees, adorned with 1,500 lights, are suspended from the 90-foot rotunda.

Corinthia Hotel London

London

The Corinthia Hotel London's tree may not be the largest, but the 10-foot tall gingerbread construction is surely the tastiest.

&BEYOND MNEMBA ISLAND

Zanzibar

No trees are harmed to celebrate the holidays at &Beyond's Mnemba Island in Tanzania. Instead, one that has already died as the result of erosion is decorated with lights and seashells.

Bacara Resort & Spa

Santa Barbara, California

The "tree" at the Bacara Resort is actually a steel sculpture constructed by David Shelton Studios. All proceeds from the sale of the tree's ornaments ($25 each) benefit the Gaviota Coast Conservancy.

Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris

Paris

Jeff Leatham, the artistic director of the Four Seasons Paris George V's famous floral displays, also oversees the Christmas decorations. This year Leatham included a "tree" constructed of bare bulbs suspended in the hotel’s courtyard.

Anantara Kihavah

Maldives

Guests dining at the underwater restaurant at the Anantara Kihavah resort in the Maldives can gaze out at coral tree that brings the holiday spirit to the sea.

Willard InterContinental, Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C.

The Willard InterContinental tips its hat to the neighbors down the street, with a tree decorated with the entire White House Christmas Ornaments collection.

The Dorchester, London

London

The Dorchester in London plays it cool with an old-school traditional tree decorated with gold bows and balls. It’s content to cede center stage to the elaborate gingerbread hotel, an impressive scale model of the Dorchester.

The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa

Tucson, Arizona

More than 250 living Golden Barrel cacti were used to construct the tree at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa. At the end of the holiday season, the cacti are planted on the resort’s grounds.
